Ames Taping

Professional jointing and taping for perfectly smooth walls and ceilings.

Ames taping is the dry-lining method of finishing plasterboard: joints, corners and screw heads are taped and filled with jointing compound, then feathered and sanded so the wall is smooth and ready to paint without a plaster skim. Adam Young provides Ames taping for new builds, extensions and conversions across Clackmannanshire, Stirling and Falkirk.

Ames taping is the dry-lining method of finishing plasterboard: joints are taped and filled with jointing compound, then feathered and sanded so the whole wall is smooth and ready for paint. It is a fast, clean alternative to a full plaster skim and is ideal for new builds, extensions, loft conversions, garage conversions and renovation projects. Because I also decorate, I can take your walls from bare board to finished colour.

How it works

My process

  1. 1
    Check the boards

Boards are inspected for secure fixing and gaps are pre-filled where needed.

  2. 2
    Tape and fill

Joints and corners are taped and filled with jointing compound in successive coats.

  3. 3
    Sand

Each joint is feathered and sanded flat so nothing shows once painted.

  4. 4
    Decorate

If you want, I follow on with a mist coat and full decoration for a single point of contact.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Ames taping and plastering?

Plastering applies a thin skim coat over the entire wall. Ames taping only fills and finishes the joints and fixings on plasterboard, leaving the board face as the finished surface. Taping is quicker, dries faster and avoids the wet trade, and gives a smooth paint-ready finish when done properly.

How soon can the walls be painted after taping?

Once the final coat of compound is fully dry and sanded, usually within a day or two depending on conditions, the walls can take a mist coat and then the finishing coats.

Do you work with builders?

Yes. I regularly tape and decorate for builders, joiners and homeowners managing their own projects across Clackmannanshire, Stirling and Falkirk.
